As the G8 limps into its second day our activists have scaled a fifth Italian coal-fired power station, again demanding climate leadership and action from the G8 heads of state.

As the leaders of the world’s most powerful nations arrived at the G8 Summit today, over 100 Greenpeace activists from around the world have occupied four coal-fired power stations across Italy, demanding the G8 Heads of State take leadership on climate change.

G8 countries urged to act

On the eve of the G8 summit in Italy - our activists have been beaming a message on the Kremlin and floating a life-sized iceberg past the Eiffel tower to call for urgent action from world leaders to save the climate.

Political inaction threatens Paradise

As leaders from the eight richest and most polluting countries in the world gather this week in Italy, our ship, the Esperanza, is witnessing the direct impacts of climate change on Pacific Islands. People of this beautiful and culturally rich region are at the front line of climate impacts. They are the first to confront sea-level rise as it threatens their homes, contaminates soil and ruins their crops, while sea temperature rise threatens their food supply from the coral reefs and the sea. Although most of us think of climate change as an issue that our children will have to deal with, Pacific people are already experiencing the impacts today.

Our famous fleet of ships is about to get an extraordinary addition - The Rainbow Warrior III. It will be purpose built from the keel up to fight the greatest threat to the oceans and our world: climate change.

Unfortunately, in recent years, hundreds of these sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico have been killed or injured by an indiscriminate fishing practice known as bottom longline fishing.

Between July 2006 and the end of 2007, the government estimates that the Gulf of Mexico bottom longline fishery, which targets reef fish like grouper and tilefish, resulted in the capture of nearly 1,000 threatened and endangered sea turtles -- and that in more than 80% of these incidents, the turtles were injured or killed.

Six of seven species of sea turtles are listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act, and indiscriminate fishing practices are a grave threat to sea turtles around the world. Loggerheads nesting on Florida beaches -- the same turtles captured in the Gulf of Mexico bottom longline fishery -- have plummeted by more than 40% over the last decade.

A baby moose was in distress in a creek in Minnesota .
A man got him out of the creek; tried to find the mother & sent him on his way,
but eventually the moose stumbled back into the creek & was rescued again.

The baby moose followed the man home.
The man has only a small cabin so he took the moose to another neighbor, who took these photos.
They took the moose the next day to a woman who looks after wild animals & she put it in a pen with a rescued fawn.
