Using meditation to relieve pain and heal.
Come faeries, take me out of this dull world. For I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame. ~~~W. B. Yeats~~~
What is chronic illness?
A chronic illness isn't the name of just one illness. It's a word used to describe one or a group of health conditions that last a long time. In fact, the root word of chronic is "chronos" which refers to time. In a nutshell, it's a problem or condition that most often limits what a person can do and it doesn't always go away. The biggest challenge is for the person to be able to maintain their character and a positive self-identity.
It is important to have a battle plan. To be prepared as to what to do in situations that suddenly come up or to tackle symptoms that go on day after day relieves a certain amount of anxiety. We can give each other ideas as to how we handle different aspects of our lives, dealing with a chronic illness.
It can sometimes be too much to handle and family and friends are often frustrated themselves because they don't know how to help. This group is not only for information about medical conditions. It is also meant as a place to complain and vent when things get tough. Just getting a little feedback that we aren't going crazy or being too hard on ourselves can be a relief. Sharing is a very effective therapy sometimes.

Yes the swelling has all but disappeared! The shot in my back yesterday didn't do any good. I'll probably have to get another one in a few weeks. The doc says to wait because the cortisone may "move". That's kinda scary but I'll wait.
Hi Mona, Have you been taking your days easy and enjoying them like we talked about? =) I don't have any experience with Neurontin. Has the water retention with swelling left now that you stopped taking it? Are you able to go for short walks?
Blessings for continued healing.
Hugs, Kallisto
I had my surgery and all went well. I will return to work after I see the doc on Sep. 2. Today, I am going back to the hospital to get 1-2 cortisone shots in my back, for the nerve pain. My pain doctor put me on Neurontin for the nerve paiin but I had a lot of water retention and swelling with it so I'm off of it now. Has anyone else experienced that?
Now I have a new ailment. I have a Rectocele. Those of you who don't know what it is, look it up; I don't really want to go into the details on here. I'm scheduled for surgery on Aug. 4. That's a long time to wait and I'm on a cancellation list. Also my back has gotten worse, now involving my hip. I have to get an MRI, Xrays, and probably more shots. Anything to avoid another back surgery.
