Beneathe the faellen leaves, under a veil of slumbered trees,
Sang the lark a song unto the artic wind.
'Please mercy grant me here, from thy cold und bitter breath
That hath all but taken life from my wings.'
'A pact' blessed the wind, 'for granted flight of thee
Shouldst grace for me an honour in thy name.
O lark, I offer here – one warm und sunny cheer
For thy song of love surrendered to my gaze.'
